Thanksgiving Warm-Up

I'm very happy today. One, because I am off from work and getting ready for Thanksgiving. And two, because our friend's sick baby girl made a huge advancement between yesterday and today. I can't stop smiling.
Yesterday was a busy day for me at work. I did however find time to call the home study agency and chat about the steps we need to take to complete the home study. She explained to me that there will be three in-home visits. The home study is usually completed within three months (two and a half months if we're really aggressive.)

At 6:00 last night, our assigned social worker called me on my cell. I was still at work sitting at my desk. She asked me a few questions about Gladney and asked how we chose that particular agency. I told her it was because the place smelled like cookies and we all like cookies. Just joking. She asked me if I was still at work and I said yes. Then she asked how far my office was from home and pointed out to me that I work late. She asked me if I am a hard worker and I responded by saying, "Yes, I am a very hard worker. But only when I need to be...I mean, I am working late tonight because of the holiday but it's not always like this." I was back peddling like you wouldn't believe. I was definitely put on the spot and it serves me right to not think on my toes. We have to always remember to be careful with how we answer certain questions they ask. Talk about stressful.
She directed me to their website where I can download the home study application which is 347 pages long. Well, not really that long but it was a good 40 pages. This application needs to be completed before our first in-home visit.

Our social worker is retired so her schedule is very flexible. She said she could come to our house as early as Monday to start. I need a little time to fill out this extensive application so I told her we'll schedule it for the week of December 11th. She was more than fine with that.

I read through the questions on the adoptive parent questionnaire and they are very, very detailed. Some asking us to describe our childhood, how we got along with brothers and sisters, how we were disciplined, and what would make our marriage better. That's hard! These are just a few of the questions they ask. We will definitely need the extra time to gather all the information they are requesting. We feel good that things are moving right along and we hope they continue moving.

We're heading up to my sisters house in Massachusetts tonight and having dinner there tomorrow. Looking forward to giving thanks tomorrow.

Love,
Des and Sean

Hi, happy thanksgiving guys! I miss you both as I haven't seen you in while but reading your blog makes me feel like there are fewer miles between us. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you!

Markey offers the social worker some of his kibbles as an incentive to get the process moving along.
