Mary came this morning with her check list of all the things we have to provide for the next adoption. We owe her current medical records, another round of fingerprints for state and federal back ground checks, copies of our drivers licenses, completed questionnaire, application, three reference letters, income tax return, vet records, a check for $800, and a quart of blood each. It does seem like a lot but this is only half of what we owed her the first time around. The good news is that she thinks we only needed this one home study visit! She feels certain she has enough information gathered to complete the home study report based on everything we covered today. If I can get her everything mentioned above within the next three weeks, we should be in good shape.
Jake was on his best behavior during the visit. I was a little surprised considering he had a terrible night sleep. I woke up this morning thinking he was going to show some dragon colors but he didn't. He was a little peach and I could tell Mary was pretty impressed.
It was exciting to hear all the steps we'll go through working wiht this agency in Utah. Mary described the interstate compact to us and went through the check list of everything we'll need to bring to Utah when we go and pick up the baby. We will have to stay in Utah up to 10 days until both states (Utah and Connecticut) give us clearance to travel with the baby. It's starting to become a little more real at this point. I think the best part of our meeting with her was when she asked us if we would be open to adopting locally if the situation should arise. Sean and I looked at eachother like it was dejavu. She asked that same question when we were trying to adopt through Gladney and that's how we found Jake. I guess you just never know. She said she would like a couple extra profiles of ours to show local birthmothers should that situation present itself.
It was a great visit and Sean and I are pumped for what's to come. It could be another wild ride...or it could be textbook perfect. We're about to find out...
